Elevate selected for Dana Penulis Perpustakaan Negara Malaysia (PNM)

Good news! PNM has selected my book Elevate for Dana Penulis PNM. In early February 2020, I received Whatsapp messages from PNM (the National Library of Malaysia) about the good news. Elevate will be distributed to all public libraries in Malaysia!

Syukur, alhamdulillah! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ Thank you PNM and all my readers of Elevate for your support and encouragements! =)

And today alhamdullilah I delivered the books to PNM – during the conditional MCO. What an experience!

In this blog post, you will learn about Dana Penulis PNM, how to apply for it (with a bonus tip).

About Dana Penulis PNM

Six months earlier, I received a letter from PNM informing me that the book was undergoing due considerations for Dana Penulis PNM.

To be honest, at that point, I had just a tiny weeny hope that the book Elevate could land in the shortlist or being selected to receive the funding.

I reckon that perhaps PNM gets hundreds or thousands of applications every year… And I reckon funding is limited and varied year-to-year. That… the competition for Dana Penulis must be stiff!๐Ÿ˜…

It reminds me of applying for research grants, like RU, FRGS when I was a lecturer.

FYI, Dana Penulis PNM is a form of funding under PNM to incentivise and support self-published authors. A fine way to foster creativity, continue fuelling the passion and entrepreneurial spirits in self-published authors.

Every little helps for struggling self-published authors.

If your book is selected for Dana Penulis, PNM would purchase directly from you, the author. In a way, Dana Penulis PNM helps support the publishing and printing industry in Malaysia. Find out more here.

To accept the offer, one can either ask the documents be posted to your home address, OR collect them in person at PNM.

Heading to PNM…

I chose the latter, made an appointment with the officer-in-charge and found myself two days later at PNM. I was asked to bring photocopies of my IC and bank account statement (with the bank address) – 2 copies each.

There were several documents to fill out. Make sure you’re not in a rush since some documents do require attention to detail.

What makes this process much easier and efficient is the helpful PNM staff who patiently guided me through the paperwork. Thank you Bhg. Pembinaan Koleksi PNM!

Now… you may ask how to apply for Dana Penulis PNM?

Applying for Dana Penulis PNM

Early last year, after publishing Elevate on Amazon.com and as hardcopies, I scoured the internet for details on how to apply for Dana Penulis PNM.

The best source, I discovered, is none other than… Facebook. You can follow the template shared by Dr Nik Rahim, or in the most recent post by author-illustrator, Nor Emila:

My application letter to PNM closely followed the above template.

Bonus tip: In my letter, I mentioned several benefits the potential readers would gain on reading Elevate.

Then, I sent a copy of Elevate and the letter to PNM via Poslaju.*

Good luck! #MalaysiaMembaca
